go to next engineering project Atlas V Engineering Project project: the Boeing Company's C-17

The Boeing Avionics Software Integration Facility has been using ITCN's C-TAC (Computer Tester Analyzer Controller) to aid in C-17 development since 1996.

C-TAC has primarily been used to trace real-time code execution for software testing.  When the C-TAC Plus was released, the C-17 was one of the first programs to take advantage of the upgrade's advanced capabilities.

C-17 software engineers have also used the C-TAC Plus' remote control capabilities using TCP/IP communications with the C-TAC interface command set to monitor and record aircraft data remotely.

A special housing for the C-TAC Plus was developed for the program to make their lab testing and development efforts easier. The simple modification was made to put all the components that would be needed in one compact unit.

The U.S. Air Force/Boeing C-17 Globemaster III is designed to fulfill airlift needs well into the next century — carrying large combat equipment and troops or humanitarian aid across international distances directly to small austere airfields anywhere in the world.

The C-17 has been involved in numerous contingency operations, including flying troops and equipment to Operation Joint Endeavor to support peacekeeping in Bosnia, Operation Allied Force in Kosovo, and the recent War on Terror in Afghanistan.
